South Henry Family,
The South Henry School Corporation received information this morning from the Indiana State Police about the procession route for fallen Richmond police officer Seara Burton. The procession will move from the Tiernan Center in Richmond to Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis on US 40. US40 is a major thoroughfare within our Corporation boundaries. Initial reports indicate that the procession will be substantial in size and could be through our district during times when afternoon buses are normally on their routes and students are driving home.
Due to the potential for a considerable disruption to our afternoon dismissal, in consideration for those who wish to attend the procession with their children, and out of respect for a fallen hero, the South Henry School Corporation WILL DISMISS EARLY ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26th at the following approximate times:
- Elementary car riders – 1:20PM
- Elementary bus riders – 1:25PM
- Jr./Sr. High School students – 1:30PM
All Jr./Sr. High School after-school events will continue as scheduled unless communicated otherwise by coaches or sponsors. There will be no after-school events for elementary students with the exception of those students participating in Junior High athletics or organizations. Students who are involved in after-school activities may stay after school and will be supervised until 3:00PM when their activities begin. Those living south of US40 should use discretion on going home after school as they may have trouble getting back to school in time for after-school events. Latch Key will be available for those elementary students who have previously signed up beginning at 1:20PM.
I understand that changes in schedules can be a hardship on our families and I don’t take such a decision lightly. With this said, I hope that you understand the unique and unusual circumstances that we are facing. Please use the weekend to make appropriate arrangements for your children so that the early dismissal runs smoothly on Monday.
I also strongly encourage you to use this as an opportunity to teach your children about respect for those who selflessly serve our communities and have made the ultimate sacrifice for our safety. I am incredibly grateful for those who keep us safe each and every day. I would love for the Titan family to be well-represented along US40 to pay respect for Ms. Burton and her family.
Respectfully,
Jeremy Duncan
South Henry School Corporation Superintendent of Schools
