What an amazing week we have been having so far!! Here are some highlights: Our PTO has organized teacher appreciation week dress up days. Every single day there have been decorations and gifts for our staff. You can see teachers and students dressed up in the pictures. How fun! The hallways have been decorated and it has been wonderful! Thank you, PTO!! We also celebrated school nurses day! Thank you, Mrs. Hall, for everything that you do for our corporation and students. We are so thankful to have you. Mrs. Farris's 5th grade class has been HARD AT WORK creating dioramas to share with our school. They presented their research with others classrooms who visited. What a wonderful way to share what they have learned! It is ALWAYS a great day to be a Titan!

Big news! For the second consecutive year, Tri Elementary School has been named a Project Lead the Way Distinguished School! It is one of only 492 schools across the U.S. to receive this honor for providing broad access to transformative learning experiences for students through PLTW Launch. “What an incredible accomplishment for Tri Elementary School to be recognized as a Project Lead the Way Distinguished School for two consecutive years!” said principal Susan Alcoen. “This honor is a testament to the amazing work of our entire TES school community to provide exceptional STEM learning experiences that inspire and empower students to be thinkers, creators, innovators, team members, problem-solvers, and solution-seekers for real-world challenges. Congratulations to our students for making this achievement possible!” Great things are happening at South Henry!

Titan Family, Our dear friends at The Miracle League of New Castle are seeking help for their 2023 season. The Miracle League of New Castle provides children and adults facing serious physical and cognitive disabilities the opportunity to play America's greatest pastime...baseball. The next sign up for players, buddies, and volunteers is this Thursday, May 4th, from 5-7 pm at the Baker Park diamonds. Buddies are one of the most important parts of their league. The Miracle League uses a “buddy” system, pairing each player with an able-body peer. The result is a bond that cannot be described. Buddies go through a 1 hour training session prior to games and, if over the age of 18, must pass a background check. The buddies will be taught to respect the player, how to speak person first when it comes to a player with a disability, how to handle players with different abilities, how to protect their player while in the field and at bat, and how to let the player play as much as possible on their own. Thank you in advance for your support of the Miracle League of New Castle! Learn more and find registration forms at https://www.miracleleagueofnewcastle.com/

IMPORTANT SCHOOL BUS SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT South Henry Family, The South Henry School Corporation has recently experienced an uptick in school bus stop arm violations. In Indiana, it's illegal for drivers to pass a stopped school bus that has its red lights flashing and stop-arm extended. This applies to all roads except for motorists on a highway that is divided by a barrier, such as a concrete wall or grassy median. This can become confusing for motorists, particularly in times of construction such as what is happening on US40. Please note that traffic cones or barrels such as seen many places on US40 do not designate a divided highway and motorists, moving in both directions, should still stop for flashing lights and stop arms. With this said, there are places on US40 where concrete barriers are in place dividing the highway. According to the Indiana State Police, these concrete barriers would designate a division and motorists traveling the opposite direction are not required to stop. While this can be confusing, it is always best to err on the side of caution for the safety of our students. South Henry School Corporation buses are equipped with stop arm cameras. Those who illegally pass a stopped school bus will be held accountable. Tickets have and will continue to be written, and individuals will be referred to the Henry County Prosecutor's Office. Violators could pay a fine of up to $10,000 or have their license suspended for up to 90 days for the first offense or up to a year for the second. We thank you for your continued help and support as we strive to protect our most precious assets...our children. NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The South Henry School Corporation is elated to announce that our very own Amy Stevens has been named to the Apple Distinguished Educators (ADE) Class of 2023. In 1995, Apple created the ADE Program to recognize K-12 and higher education pioneers who are using Apple technology to transform teaching and learning in powerful ways. Celebrating 28 years, the program has grown into a worldwide community of visionary and innovative leaders in education, helping other educators rethink what’s possible with iPad and Mac. Learn more about the contributions of ADEs worldwide at https://www.apple.com/education/k12/apple-distinguished-educator/. “Hearing the news that I have been selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator is an incredibly proud moment for me personally and for my professional career. I take great pride in being recognized as a leader in technology education who sparks joy and acts as a catalyst for learning,” said Mrs. Stevens. According to Apple, these educators are active leaders from around the world that are helping other educators rethink what’s possible in the classroom with the use of iPads, Macs, and other Apple technologies. Amy Stevens, a teacher at Tri Elementary School, is one of those pioneering educators. “Being recognized in this elite category of educators, not just locally or nationally, but worldwide, speaks to Mrs. Stevens’ desire to better herself as an educator and the quality opportunities that she is providing our students daily. We are incredibly grateful for Mrs. Stevens and all that she does for our students and staff,” said Superintendent, Mr. Jeremy Duncan. “What a well-deserved honor for Mrs. Stevens! Mrs. Stevens is a true champion for creativity, innovation, and integration when it comes to Apple products and applications. She makes possible happen for technology, teaching, and learning for our entire school community,” said Mrs. Alcorn, Tri Elementary School principal. Mrs. Stevens is in her fourth year of teaching at Tri Elementary School. The entire South Henry School Corporation family would like to congratulate her on such an incredible achievement.
