South Henry Family, With last week's blast of winter weather and the threat of ice this evening, it's a great time to review our process for making decisions for school delays and cancellations. Please know, it is always our goal to have "in-person" classes. We understand the hardship on families when schedules change and we also believe that the classroom is one of the best places for a child to learn. With that said, the safety of our people is always our first priority. These decisions are not taken lightly and involve many moving parts including quickly changing conditions and forecasts, building conditions such as heat and electricity, ability for buses to start, air temperature and wind chill, estimated times of snow removal from roads, lots, and sidewalks, and more. Weighing all factors involved, these tough decisions are made using the process spelled out in this infographic. We appreciate your grace and understanding as we strive to protect our Titan students, staff, and family. THANK YOU!

School Delays and Cancellations
Good morning! The software company that we use for automated phone calls is experiencing delays in their call system today. As you know, we use many different methods of communication in the event of school delays and closures. It appears that text messaging, app notifications, and social media worked properly. Unfortunately, it appears that phone calls have not yet gone out to many of our Titan families. These calls are still showing "pending" and may come to you later this morning. We apologize for any confusion this may cause. Thank you.

Technical Difficulties
Due to inclement weather and poor road conditions, the South Henry School Corporation will be closed to in-person classes on Friday, January 19th, 2024. Today will be a synchronous eLearning Day. Students should plan to participate in eLearning as directed by your child’s school and teacher. Go Titans!

Closure
Awesome news! Recently, the Indiana Department of Education announced graduation rates for 2023. While we strive for a 100% graduation rate each and every year, we are still elated to announce that our 2023 graduation rate was well above state average. In fact, our 98.3% graduation rate places us 25th in Indiana out of 344 reported school corporations. Congratulations to the entire South Henry family for a job well done! Great things are happening at South Henry!

Grad Rate 2023
The South Henry School Corporation will operate on a two hour delay tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17th, 2024. Extreme cold temperatures create challenges for heating systems and buses. If we experience challenges with these systems or if buses will not start properly, please know that this delay could change to a school closure (synchronous eLearning Day). We thank you for your grace and understanding. Go Titans!

We are immensely grateful for Bobbi Plummer and our Henry County leadership for listening to the concerns created by the St. Rd. 103 closure for our families coming to us from the north and west. They have been quick to act, installing flashing signs at the intersection 500s and 25w. They have also completed a traffic study in this area as well. With today's blast of snowy weather, we are thankful for those looking out for the safety of the South Henry family and we are reminded of the importance of alert and careful driving. Please continue to have conversations with our young drivers about driving slowly, putting cell phones away, and being attentive to the road and its conditions. We love our Titans and want to keep them safe! Go Titans!

Congratulations to Tri's own Josiah Cox on being named the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association District 2 Player of the Week. We are proud of you, Josiah! From the IBCA's Press Release: "Tri High tends to make a lot of noise when it comes to basketball in Henry County, and last week Senior Josiah Cox was on it, helping the Titans to a pair of nice victories. Friday, the Titans visited Cowan, knocking off the Blackhawks on the road, 69-59. The next day the Titans played host to a solid Union City team, defeating the Indians, 57-44. Against Cowan, the 6-2 guard scored 32 points, including a 5-9 performance from behind the arc, to go along with a near-perfect 10-11 from the charity stripe. Add to that 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, and a blocked shot, and Cox put forth a well-rounded effort in the win. Saturday, the Senior guard scored 34 points against Union City, including 4-8 from 3-point range. He posted a double-double with his 10 rebounds, plus he added 4 assists, 4 steals, and a blocked shot in the success."

December 8th, 2023 South Henry Family, Yesterday afternoon, we were made aware via email of a lockdown that occurred at the New Castle Career Center. At that time, we had no information as to the reason for the lockdown. Late last night, an official press release was published by the New Castle Police Department providing additional information about the circumstances surrounding the lockdown. We have been in contact with school administrators of the New Castle Community School Corporation regarding the situation due to the 60+ South Henry Juniors and Seniors who attend programming there. We are thankful for their work to keep children safe. At this time, public information is limited to what has been released in the above-referenced press release. The press release stated: "Today New Castle Police School Resource Officers were notified of a possible threat with the information from the Hagerstown School Administration and Hagerstown School Resource Officer. New Castle police and New Castle school resource officers, with the information provided, handled the situation immediately, detaining two students in the parking lot of New Castle High School before their class began. At this time New Castle Police Detectives were called to assist with the investigation. After several hours of investigating, it was determined that there had been no credible threat toward any school or any students at all. During the investigation at New Castle High School, several vehicles were searched by administrative staff. During those searches, a firearm was located in a vehicle in the parking lot of the New Castle Career Center unrelated to the possible threat. Several alcohol beverage containers were located in a separate vehicle. One juvenile student was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and a separate juvenile student was charged with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. Both students were juveniles. The New Castle Police Department and New Castle School Corporation make the safety of students and staff the highest priority. As soon as the information was shared with the school staff and school SRO, all on-duty New Castle Police Department units were dispatched to New Castle High School. The New Castle Police Department will continue to work with the New Castle School Corporation to maintain a safe environment that this community expects." We are extremely grateful for the swift and decisive actions of the Hagerstown and New Castle administration, School Resource Officers, and law enforcement to ensure the safety of Career Center students. We will provide more information as appropriate and as publicly released. GO TITANS! Sincerely, Jeremy Duncan Superintendent, South Henry School Corporation
